Why go Cruelty Free?

Cruelty Free

At PINK hair & beauty, we believe it is wrong for any animal to be burned, blinded, poisoned or killed in the name of beauty! All of the hair products and beauty products in our store have been carefully audited to ensure none of them have been tested on animals (or contain animal ingredients).

Sadly, in many parts of the world, this is still a wide-spread practice.  Thankfully, in Australia, it is difficult to test cosmetic products on animals due to our laws (although animal testing for medical research and education in Australia is still very common).

However, Australian shelves are filled with imported cosmetic products that have been tested on animals overseas before reaching our shores. Not only is animal testing cruel to the animals, in this day and age, it is actually also unnecessary and inaccurate.

  • Unnecessary because there are many thousands of chemical ingredients already established as safe by animal testing in the past and also there are a number of non-animal testing methods which are cheaper, more accurate and readily available.
  • Inaccurate because the physiology of most animals is very different to the physiology of humans so the way an animal may react to a certain chemical could be quite different to how a human will react to it.

In 2013, the European Union banned the import or sale of cosmetics that have been tested on animals. This has undoubtedly put pressure on the big American companies that used to export their products to Europe to change the way they research and test their products.

Hopefully a similar ban in Australia one day would increase the pressure on these companies and would also mean Australians could buy their cosmetic and beauty needs with the confidence of knowing their purchase has not contributed to animal cruelty.
